Family Clay Day!
When? :  Thursday, November 17th 6pm to 7pm
Where?  :  In the CHE Cafeteria

Students and their families are invited to attend our second annual Family clay day.  Families are encouraged to make holiday ornaments and/or small flat pendants to keep as mementos or give as gifts.  Families will work together to make a clay keepsake, Mrs. Gilley will fire all pieces and students will have the opportunity to glaze their fired pieces in class.  All pieces will be available for pick up the week of December 12th – 16th.
Items you may wish to bring:  Cookie cutters, textured objects, rolling pins, apron or old button up shirt to protect your clothing.
Helpful hints when working with clay:

  • Roll slab of clay no thinner than 1/2 inch thick.  Thickness sticks will be available on tables please look for them.
  • When joining two pieces of clay together please make sure you score and slip.  If unsure what this means, ask your child to demonstrate, they will be learning this vocabulary in class.
  • Before you leave, make sure your child’s first and last name, and teachers name are scratched onto the backside of their piece.  Tooth picks will be available to do this.

Final Requests: Some students will not be able to attend, kindly remember these students and help your child get into the spirit of giving by making an extra piece/s for another.  If there are any parent volunteers willing to set up and help make this event a success please contact me for further information. mgille2@neisd.net

Hope to see you There!
