Wonderland!

The 2012-2013 school play/musical selection is Wonderland!  Wonderland! is an unabashedly silly adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass. With hip-hopping music, it is an upbeat, coming-of-age story that audiences of all ages will adore! You’ll recognize some of your favorite familiar characters of Alice’s Wonderland along with meeting dozens of new ones: a baseball team, a gospel group called The Responsibilities, a train conductor, star-struck tourists, plastic light-saber wielding knights and much more…An eclectic mix of music that ranges from gypsy swing to doo-wop to bluegrass will have your audiences grinning like a Cheshire cat!

The book is adapted by James DeVita Music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur.  Pioneer Drama offers a synopsis at the following web address: http://www.pioneerdrama.com/SearchDetail.asp?PC=WONDERLAND

Lots and Lots to Cover Today

posted Aug 29, 2012, 7:47 PM by Rebecca Baker

Below you will find a TON of information... the schedule for this evening, and a change for Thursday and Friday.  There is also an important note from the director, information about our Winners for front & center seats, and information about the Art Contest for all of the CHE kiddos.

Amy has asked that we (parents) all talk with our students about school behavior and rehearsal etiquette.  We need your support here.  Many times, because of the exciting games and the adrenalin that accompany a production, kids behave naturally like they are in recess; however we need their focus.  We have fallen behind in two different scenes because of this and we may have to add another rehearsal time to correct the delay.

SPLIT REHEARSALS -  Families, from time to time Amy has scheduled split rehearsals.  Please look carefully at the calendar.  If your child is called at 7:00 rather than 6:15 or is done at 6:45 rather than 7:30, you need to adjust your drop off and pick up accordingly.  We cannot have students who are not in rehearsal running loose in the school without supervision.  Last night, we had 6 kids who were done at 6:45 left unattended until 7:30. That is not safe for the kids and contrary to school policy and the agreement we have with Mr. Wicker about kids being the building after hours.

Rehearsal Calls:
Wednesday, August 29, 2012 - 6:15 - 7:30 pm
Scene 11pg 26-29

The winner for the 4 Front and Center Seats for Wonderland!  is .....
The Delgado Family.  Congratulations!

Our advertising deadline is THIS FRIDAY, August 31st.  We will also hold another drawing on that day. Get your ads in to the office in time for your chance to win 4 FRONT AND CENTER SEATS to Wonderland!!

Any questions?  E-mail akbengo@gmail.com or text Kristin at 210-710-3884.

ART CONTEST

Remember! Art contest submissions are due on the 31st.  Selected art pieces will be used for the program, post cards, play poster and t-shirt.  This a really fun way to honor the artistic talents of our students. Although all the kids are participating through their art class, additional submissions are also allowed.  If you have a young artist who wants to do a second (or third) piece that is great!   Here’s a tip, unlike Reflections, play art is promotional in nature.  To help your student’s piece get selected, remind them to include things like (1) the Name of the Play (Wonderland), (2) the Name of our School, (3) the Date or the Year…  All of these can help with the promotional nature of the art (even just including one or two of these is good).  Also – clean lines, bold color for printed pieces, and the ability to convert to 2 or 3 colors for the t-shirt piece.  Art should be turned in to the office on Friday, August 31. Good luck!!

Chess Pieces

posted Aug 29, 2012, 7:45 PM by Rebecca Baker

DEAR CHESS PIECE PARENTS:

Thank you to all those who were able to attend the Chess Piece Parent Meeting last night.  We were able to take a few votes and make some head way on the issue of the base outfit.  Sonia Rocha has volunteered to design a sample costume and then lead other volunteers in organizing an assembly line to replicate the costume for the 45+ other chess pieces.  If you have time and would like to volunteer during play rehearsals to be part of the costume assembly line, we will be starting up in approximately 1 week after Sonia has had an opportunity to put together a sample for us to replicate.  If you were not able to attend the meeting, please email me your contact information so that I can get you down on the Chess Piece email list.

The base outfit for all the Chess Pieces is going to be a red or white A-frame tunic with tubing in the bottom hemline to make the bottom form a circular shape.  Those that attended voted to go ahead and pay $5 for each of the chess piece costumes they needed so that Sonia does not have to come out of pocket personally for the fabric.  Jill Fitch has volunteered to collect and keep track of the money for the costumes.  Additional funds may be necessary, but at least this gets us started.

Items that still need to be addressed are: (1) what are the chess pieces going to wear under their costumes, (2) shoes, and (3) individual chess piece customization (i.e. king, queen, knight, rook, etc.).   (1) and (2) will likely be addressed by Betsy to save us all from having to meet again.  (3) should be addressed within your respective (king, queen, rooks, etc.) counterpart groups and the decision made by your smaller group (along with Betsy's approval) as to how to make your specific chess piece distinguishable from the other types of Chess Pieces.  It is important to get Betsy's approval so that we have a cohesive looking appearance throughout the entire cast while making sure each of our various characters are distinguishable enough to tell rooks from knights, pawns, etc.

Special Thanks goes out to Betsy Landry for volunteering to Lead our Costume Design Committee and ESPECIALLY to Sonia Rocha who is volunteering to head up the costume making assembly line for the Chess Pieces and Jill Fitch for volunteering to oversee the finances of the chess piece costume production.  We are all very grateful for their help.

Food!, Ad Sales/Drawing on Friday, and Saturday Practice

posted Aug 29, 2012, 7:44 PM by Rebecca Baker

Wonderland! parents,

Today's edition of the Wondermail contains (4) important topics, and requires more than one scroll (sorry, I couldn't help it!).  Please be sure that you make it all the way to the bottom!

(1)  FOOD - If you are on the Food Committee, here is your reminder to touch base asap - our actors will need lunch for Saturday's rehearsal (THIS Saturday, see below).

(2)  Add Sales, Drawing on Friday

Dear Play Parents –

The Ad Team has announced that the first drawing for 4-front/center seats will happen on Friday!  Your name will be placed in this drawing for each ad you sell before Friday. (Sell 10 ads and you get 10 chances!)  Make sure you have your money turned in (in the play envelope) to Tish by the start of school on Friday to be included.  Remember, our goal is for every family to sell at least one ad.

These ads are great for Castle Hills area businesses that want to hit our targeted community for a very low price.   They are also fun for kids in the show.

The ad forms we passed out at the parent meeting are attached. These explain pricing, size, etc.

Here are examples of ads from last year:

(3)  Open House - shameless plug for the PTA Open House tonight.  If you didn't get your reservation in (dinner was pre-sold) don't fret.  You should still come visit your child(ren)'s class rooms, and learn more about the many program offerings this year!  Doors open 6-7:30p TONIGHT.

(4)  Saturday rehearsal - YES!  This Saturday
Most of our 'seasoned' actors (NOT the deck of cards) have key rehearsals this Saturday between the hours of 9a - 3p.  Music rehearsals in Room 118 and blocking, lines, etc. on the stage.  Please see the attached call sheet, listing characters, times, and locations.  You can also find this information on the scene breakdown.

Saturday Lunch

posted Aug 29, 2012, 7:43 PM by Rebecca Baker

Dear Play Parents,

There has been some confusion about the Food that will be provided during Saturday's Play Practice.  Historically, the Hospitality Committee has only provided snacks during Saturday Practices, not lunches.  Because an email went out stating that there would be lunch provided, the Hospitality Committee has arranged to provide those play participants required to be at practice BEFORE AND AFTER the lunch break with lunch.  Funds are limited so unfortunately we are not be able to provide the entire cast lunch.  If your child does not need to be there BEFORE AND AFTER lunch, please make arrangements to provide him or her with lunch before or after their play practice.

For those that are there BEFORE and AFTER the lunch break we have put together the following menu:
Sandwhiches (wheat bread, turkey/ham, cheese, mayo)
Carrots & Cucumbers
Apples
Chips
Ranch Dip

SNACKS WILL BE AVAILABLE THROUGHOUT THE DAY AT DESIGNATED BREAK TIMES.

Water will be provided, but PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO SEND YOUR CHILD WITH A WATER BOTTLE FOR QUICK WATER BREAKS.

Please feel free to contact me or Jill Fitch with any questions.

Thanks,

Jodi Soyars
Katelyn & Ashley Windham's mom

Tweedledum and Tweedledee
    Agreed to have a battle;
For Tweedledum said Tweedledee
Had spoiled his nice new rattle.
Just then flew down a monstrous crow,

Which frightened both the heroes so,
    They quite forgot their quarrel.
